Lucia Tanassi† provides needed attention to the ethics of cadaver displays. However, I believe there is an error in the caption accompanying the third published photo in her article. The caption reads: Veins surrounding a skeletal head. The photo shows a skull surrounded by vessels impregnated with red polymer. Most anatomy textbooks use red to represent arteries, not veins. Blue is used to signify veins.

After taking my high school students to see Bodies…The Exhibition, in Atlanta, two years ago, the class had a lively discussion about the ethics surrounding procurement of the specimens. Nevertheless, I believe the red/blue-artery/vein convention was followed in the bodies on display.
