I smoked as a professor at U MN and finally quit after a diagnosis of emphysema, although I was/am asymtomatic.I strongly believe anyone who has smoked for many years should do pulmonary function tests.Ignorance is not bliss.Unfortunately such a diagnosis is great motivation. For me, (Commit) Lozenges, which last for hours, was by far the easiest way to quit forever.I now will volunteer for the AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION education committee.
